IDF airstrike in Deir al-Balah kills Hamas operative and three-year-old child
An Israeli airstrike targeted a group in central Gaza's Deir al-Balah on August 30, 2026, killing Hamas operative Hassam Osama Hussein Nasir and a three-year-old boy, Tayyem Hamdan. The IDF justified the strike during the current fragile ceasefire by stating Nasir posed an "immediate threat" to troops and civilians. Gaza health officials reported that the strike also wounded several others, marking a continuation of targeted operations despite international pressure to maintain the October truce agreement.
