Turkey Mediates Between Libya's Factions in Landmark Benghazi Meeting
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held high-level meetings in Benghazi with eastern military commander Khalifa Haftar and parliament speaker Aguila Saleh. This follow-up to talks in Tripoli signals a shift in Ankara's policy toward mediating a unified Libyan military and government. Discussions focused on energy cooperation, the security of Turkish infrastructure projects, and the possible declaration of force majeure at the Zawiya refinery following repeated drone strikes by unknown assailants that threaten the country’s fuel security.
