Escalating armed violence, intercommunal clashes, and localized disputes by non-state armed groups in East Wollega, West Shewa, and surrounding zones drove continuous waves of civilian flight into July. During the months of June and July 2026, an estimated 1,000 households (approximately 5,000 people) arrived seeking refuge in Debre Birhan, occupying unfinished buildings and temporary structures.
