Thousands Flee Oromia Conflict to Debre Birhan in Ethiopia
During late July 2026, escalating armed conflict and intercommunal tensions in Oromia forced a new wave of civilians to flee into the Amhara region. Emergency responders in Debre Birhan noted on July 22 that 500 newly arrived households (approximately 2,500 individuals) sought refuge in the town specifically fleeing recent violence in the East Wollega and surrounding zones.
