Houthi rebels have expanded their control along Yemen's Red Sea coast, seizing the Hanish islands and the port city of Mokha after Yemeni government forces withdrew. The advance threatens to further disrupt international shipping and energy transit through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. While Houthi progress along the coastal plain was reportedly halted since September 11, the capture of these strategic islands provides the group with enhanced capabilities to project power in the Red Sea.
