Fighting in Sudan's Blue Nile State Displaces 22,000 as Army Reinforcements Arrive

Renewed combat between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Geissan and Kurmuk districts has displaced 22,000 civilians over the last week, as reported by OCHA on September 2. On September 1, the SAF deployed reinforcements from the allied Joint Force to the regional capital, Ed Damazin, to counter recent rebel gains. Sudanese army chief Gen. Yasir Al-Atta vowed that troops would advance toward the western Darfur region "without stopping."
