DRC opposition rejects President Tshisekedi's national dialogue invite

Opposition parties in the Democratic Republic of the Congo formally rejected President Félix Tshisekedi's invitation for a three-month national dialogue on August 31. The opposition labeled the initiative a "political maneuver" intended to facilitate constitutional changes that would allow Tshisekedi to seek a third term. Tensions were heightened by the exclusion of the M23 rebel group from the proposed talks, with opposition factions threatening nationwide demonstrations starting September 15 unless the dialogue framework is expanded.
