Myanmar Military Accused of Cluster Munition Strikes in Kachin

Human rights monitors reported on August 30 that the Myanmar military used cluster munitions during airstrikes on Shwegu in Kachin State. The strikes targeted resistance positions but reportedly hit civilian areas, causing multiple casualties and displacement. This follows reports from the National Unity Government (NUG) that 88 civilians were killed in various airstrikes across the country in late August. The military continues its offensive against ethnic armed organizations despite regional calls for a ceasefire.
