U.S. Announces Massive Oil Transfer Following Venezuela Leadership Transition
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on August 29 that the interim government in Venezuela will transfer between 30 and 50 million barrels of sanctioned oil to the United States. The announcement follows the U.S. military operation in January 2026 that removed Nicolás Maduro from power. The proceeds from the oil sale, to be sold at market prices, will be managed by the U.S. government to support humanitarian aid and infrastructure restoration in both nations.
