US Sanctions Emirati Branch of Banque Misr Over Iran Shadow-Banking
The U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned the Emirati branch of Egypt’s Banque Misr on August 28 as part of "Operation Economic Outcast." The department alleged the bank processed $1.8 billion for over 100 companies linked to Iranian shadow-banking networks between January 2024 and June 2026. The move aims to heighten economic pressure on Tehran, which the U.S. administration claims is struggling to fund its military forces due to the intensified sanctions regime.
