DRC suspends university activities in M23-controlled Goma and Bukavu
The Congolese Ministry of Higher Education issued a decree on Wednesday suspending all academic activities at state universities in the eastern cities of Goma and Bukavu. The move follows government condemnation of "illegal" management appointments made by the M23 rebel group at these institutions. Kinshasa stated the suspension is necessary to prevent academic activities from occurring outside the legal framework, while M23 officials claimed they are setting up an alternative system for students.
