Lebanese President Declares Negotiations Only Path to Ending Border Conflict

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated that negotiations with Israel are the "only option" to achieve the liberation of occupied southern territory and the deployment of the national army to the border. His remarks follow months of intensified Israeli airstrikes and incendiary shelling that have burned thousands of hectares of Lebanese farmland. U.S. Ambassador Michel Issa noted that while talks continue, no final deal has been reached because Hezbollah has yet to hand over its weapons systems.
