US Proposes Comprehensive Arms Embargo for Sudan at UN Security Council
At a UN Security Council briefing on August 24–25, 2026, the United States proposed a resolution to expand the existing Darfur arms embargo to the entirety of Sudan. US adviser Massad Boulos emphasized that external military and drone technology support is fueling the conflict, which has killed at least 59,000 people. UN officials reported that 1,100 of the 1,400 civilian deaths in early 2026 were caused by drone strikes. Sudan's army chief rejected the move.
