US Proposes Expanding UN Arms Embargo on Sudan
The United States has formally proposed to the UN Security Council that the existing arms embargo on Darfur be expanded to cover the entirety of Sudan. The move aims to curb the flow of weapons fueling the ongoing civil war. However, the proposal faces diplomatic hurdles, as Russia has warned that such an expansion could negatively impact the Sudanese Armed Forces' ability to operate, while the Sudanese government has requested only a technical extension.
