Alliance of Sahel States Inaugurates Confederal Parliament in Niamey

The Alliance of Sahel States (AES), comprising Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, opened its first confederal parliamentary sessions in Niamey on August 24, 2026. The two-day inaugural session aims to establish the foundations for a new regional parliamentary framework and deepen institutional integration between the three military-led governments. The move follows a year of increased logistics cooperation with Russian state-aligned forces and a shared rejection of previous regional security architectures in West Africa.
