DRC and M23 rebels agree to new peace negotiation roadmap in Switzerland
Following five days of closed-door negotiations in Switzerland mediated by the US, Qatar, and the African Union, the Democratic Republic of Congo government and the AFC/M23 rebel alliance signed a roadmap for comprehensive peace talks. The agreement establishes a standardized verification mechanism for ceasefire violations, with the first joint mission scheduled for Minembwe on August 24. Despite the diplomatic breakthrough, fighting in North and South Kivu continues to challenge the framework's credibility.
