China Coast Guard 5901 Conducts Intrusive Patrol Near Luconia Shoals

The world’s largest coastguard vessel, CCG 5901, has performed an "intrusive patrol" within the Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) of Malaysia and Brunei. Positional data confirmed the vessel was loitering at five knots near Malaysian hydrocarbon infrastructure at Luconia Shoals. The deployment coincides with new satellite imagery showing the completion of a massive Chinese naval base on Antelope Reef in the Paracel Islands, featuring a runway and piers capable of supporting large combatants.
