Two Senior Al-Shabaab Commanders Killed in Middle Shabelle Operations
The Somali Ministry of Defense confirmed on August 22 that three members of al-Shabaab, including two senior commanders, were neutralized during high-stakes security operations. Somali National Army (SNA) forces targeted a militant hideout in the Daaru-Nima district, killing one leader and his bodyguard. A second operation in the Tawakal district resulted in the death of another high-ranking operative. The operations come amid a major offensive to reclaim territories in central and southern Somalia from the Al-Qaeda-linked group.
