Mali and Russia Coordinate Regional Security Operations via Presidential Call
Interim President Assimi Goïta of Mali held a high-level telephone consultation with Russian President Vladimir Putin to coordinate efforts against "armed extremist groups" in the Sahara-Sahel region. Goïta expressed gratitude for continued Russian military support as Malian forces struggle to repel insurgent advances in the north. The leaders agreed to expand trade and security cooperation, reinforcing the Alliance of Sahel States' (AES) strategic pivot toward Moscow following the withdrawal of Western security partnerships earlier this year.
