DR Congo Government Releases 15 M23 Prisoners in Doha Peace Process
The Congolese government transferred 15 detainees to the M23 rebel group in North Kivu as part of the Doha peace process. Facilitated by the ICRC, this first-known prisoner exchange follows the 2025 peace agreements brokered by international mediators. While the transfer is viewed as a vital confidence-building measure, the security situation remains fragile; M23 recently seized the strategic city of Uvira in South Kivu, and clashes persist near the Rwandan and Burundian borders.
