OAS high-level mission to Haiti announced to support December elections

The Organization of American States (OAS) announced a high-level diplomatic mission to Haiti scheduled for August 16–19, 2026. Led by Secretary General Albert Ramdin and including CARICOM leadership, the delegation will meet with transitional authorities to coordinate security assistance and humanitarian relief. The mission aims to solidify the framework for presidential and legislative elections set for December 13, 2026. Security experts warn that armed gangs still control roughly 80% of the capital despite the ongoing international stabilization efforts.
