Powerful 7.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Indonesia’s Flores Region, Killing Two
A significant 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Ende in Indonesia's Flores region at approximately 5:58 a.m. local time on August 15, 2026. The quake, centered at a depth of 10 kilometers, collapsed numerous residential buildings and homes, resulting in at least two confirmed fatalities and two injuries in East Nusa Tenggara province. A tsunami warning was briefly issued by the BMKG geophysics agency before being lifted. Humanitarian response teams are currently assessing the incremental displacement of residents in Maumere.
