NISA Eliminates Two Senior Al-Shabaab Commanders in Middle Shabelle
Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), supported by international partners, confirmed the killing of two high-ranking Al-Shabaab commanders in the Middle Shabelle region. The targets included a member of the group’s central shura council and a co-founder. The operation follows a UN Security Council report indicating that Al-Shabaab fighters have begun transferring to Afghanistan. The UN has subsequently renewed sanctions and maritime interdiction authorities to curb the group’s procurement of IED components and illicit financing.
