Extreme European Heatwave Triggers Mass Evacuations and Reactor Shutdowns
Record-breaking temperatures across Europe have ignited widespread wildfires, forcing the evacuation of over 2,300 people in France and Germany on August 14. In the French Landes region, 500 residents were moved as a blaze threatened the town of Luglon. Concurrently, France's EDF shut down six nuclear reactors due to extreme water temperatures and jellyfish blooms. In Croatia, one person died and nearly 200 were rescued from the sea by maritime authorities while fleeing fires near Omis.
