Haiti Security Crisis Deepens as Gangs Control 90% of Port-au-Prince
A comprehensive security assessment released August 14 warns of a total collapse of order in Haiti as the U.S. terminates Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 330,000 nationals. Armed gangs now control approximately 90% of the capital, utilizing systematic massacres and sexual violence to suppress opposition. More than 68,000 Haitians were deported back to the country in the first half of 2026 despite warnings that the state cannot protect returnees.
