Mass Defection of RSF Commanders and Fighters to Sudanese Army
In a significant shift in the Sudanese conflict, 21 commanders and 270 fighters from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) defected to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on August 13, 2026. The defectors, belonging to Groups 55 and 47, surrendered 37 combat vehicles in the Al-Dabbah locality of Northern State. This mass surrender and declaration of allegiance to the army represents a notable blow to RSF cohesion in the northern theater of operations.
