US DHS Begins Enforcing Termination of Haiti Temporary Protected Status
The Department of Homeland Security has commenced a new enforcement effort following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to lift the injunction on Haiti’s TPS termination. In Ohio, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers have begun summoning Haitian nationals for check-ins and outfitting them with ankle monitors. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin warned that the administration is actively pursuing the estimated 350,000 Haitians who have lost legal status, urging self-deportation to avoid arrest and removal to the unstable Caribbean nation.
