Gang Violence Forces Closure of 40 Parishes in Port-au-Prince
Religious leaders in Haiti report that 40 parishes have been forced to close as armed gangs, now controlling nearly 90% of Port-au-Prince, increasingly target churches and schools. A recent UN report confirmed 613 people were killed and 18,000 displaced in just two neighborhoods over the last four months. The humanitarian crisis is worsening as the U.S. considers terminating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 330,000 Haitians, despite the near-total collapse of Haitian state institutions.
