UN Report Documents Myanmar Military's Use of Paramotors for Silent Airstrikes

The UN-established Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) released a report on August 12 detailing the military's use of motorized paragliders and gyrocopters for low-altitude airstrikes. These low-cost aircraft allow pilots to glide silently toward civilian targets in the Sagaing region, providing minimal warning for residents. The report also documented "double-tap" strikes targeting first responders. The Arakan Army reported that these intensified aerial operations killed at least 20 civilians and injured 22 across three townships earlier this month.
