UN Report Details Myanmar Military’s Escalating Use of Low-Cost Silent Gliders
A new report by the UN Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) revealed the military's increasing reliance on motorized paragliders and gyrocopters to conduct silent, low-altitude airstrikes on civilians. In Rakhine state, recent strikes across three townships killed 20 civilians and injured 22 between August 1 and August 12. Investigators documented "double-tap" strikes targeting first responders, as the junta continues to use horrific war tactics to project control ahead of contested political transitions.
