Taiwan Condemns Planned Chinese-Indonesian Naval Drills
The Taiwanese government issued a strong condemnation of planned joint naval exercises between the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy and an Indonesian frigate east of Taiwan. The drills, described by Beijing as "navigation exercises," are slated for mid-August in waters Taipei claims as its exclusive economic zone. Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council labeled the move a "military provocation" designed to normalize Chinese jurisdiction over Pacific waters east of the island. Indonesia characterized the movement as a "passing exercise" (PASSEX) following a port visit to Russia.
