Escalating Drone and Artillery Clashes in South Kivu
Intense fighting has broken out in the Hauts Plateaux of Fizi territory between the Congolese military (FARDC) and M23/AFC rebels. Both sides are increasingly utilizing armed drones and heavy artillery in civilian-populated areas, leading to significant structural damage in Minembwe. The escalation follows a failed regional counter-offensive by Kinshasa. Humanitarian access is severely restricted, and the Congolese presidency has cancelled high-level international visits to manage the deteriorating security situation in the eastern provinces.
