Coordinated Cyberattacks Target Water Utilities in Minnesota and Michigan
U.S. federal and state officials confirmed on August 3 that more than 30 community water systems in Minnesota and nine in Michigan were targeted by coordinated cyberattacks. The FBI is investigating potential links to Iranian-affiliated threat actors. While no water safety issues were reported, industrial control systems (PLCs) were accessed remotely, disrupting operations at a treatment plant in Braham, Minnesota. The attacks follow a July 30 FBI warning regarding critical infrastructure vulnerabilities.
