World-renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja and ten members of his expedition team were confirmed dead on August 2, 2026, following a massive avalanche on Broad Peak, Pakistan. The group was attempting to scale the world's 12th-highest mountain when the slide struck near the upper camps at approximately noon. Purja, a former UK Special Forces member known for his '14 Peaks' record, was leading the international team. Rescue efforts confirmed no survivors among the 11-person party.
