Tribal Clashes and Displacement Reported in Kauda, South Kordofan
Violent clashes broke out in Kauda, South Kordofan, on August 2, 2026, involving rebel groups and Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) forces. The fighting, centered in the Kudi and Kajo neighborhoods, was triggered by tribal disputes between the Shawaya and Otoro communities over border demarcation. Gunmen looted humanitarian headquarters and burned dozens of homes, forcing a wave of civilians to flee to nearby mountains. The unrest also led to a prison break in Kauda, releasing over 100 inmates.
