Al-Shabaab Militants Kill Five Kenyan Officers in Mandera Border Clash
Five Kenyan security officers from the Special Operations Group (SOG) were killed during a heavy engagement with suspected Al-Shabaab militants near Wantey Dam in Mandera County. The patrol was ambushed by gunmen who also deployed an improvised explosive device (IED) against a reinforcement vehicle. While the armored vehicle was destroyed, the secondary blast resulted in no additional deaths. Security forces have launched a pursuit of the militants who retreated across the border into Somalia.
