UN-Backed Gang Suppression Force Confronts Armed Groups in Port-au-Prince
The UN-backed Gang Suppression Force (GSF) conducted operations in Port-au-Prince to reclaim territory from the Viv Ansanm and Gran Grif gang coalitions. Despite the deployment, armed groups maintain control over an estimated 90 percent of the capital and three out of ten provinces. Security sources report that gang activity has displaced over 1.4 million people cumulatively, with today's operations focusing on stabilizing the metropolitan area ahead of elections scheduled for later this year under the interim administration.
