Myanmar Junta Sentences Eight Activists to 37 Years Over Election Protests
A military tribunal in Mandalay sentenced student leader Htet Myat Aung and seven other activists to 37 years in prison each for their role in non-violent protests against the junta's 2026 artificial elections. The activists were held incommunicado for seven months before being convicted under election protection statutes.
