IS-K Assassinate Taliban Information Chief in Badakhshan Province

The Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K) claimed responsibility on July 30, 2026, for the assassination of Zabihullah Amiri, the Taliban's head of information and culture in Badakhshan province. Amiri and one guard were killed in a machine-gun ambush while traveling toward the provincial capital, Faizabad, on Tuesday. Taliban officials confirmed one assailant was killed and another arrested during the pursuit. The attack marks an escalation in IS-K's campaign targeting high-ranking Taliban administrators in northern Afghanistan.
