Over 500 Rohingya Feared Dead After Boats Capsize off Myanmar
The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) and the IOM reported on July 19, 2026, that more than 500 Rohingya refugees are feared missing or dead after two boats capsized off the coast of Myanmar. One vessel carrying 250 people lost contact in late June, while another believed to be carrying 280 people sank on July 8. The agencies cited worsening conflict in Rakhine State and limited humanitarian opportunities as drivers for these increasingly dangerous sea journeys.
