IRGC Navy Formally Closes Strait of Hormuz to International Shipping
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy announced the indefinite closure of the Strait of Hormuz on July 12, 2026. The move follows an incident where a container ship was allegedly struck by Iranian warning fire for using an unauthorized route. Tehran stated the waterway will remain shut until US military interventions in the region cease. Despite the announcement, US CENTCOM maintains that traffic is still flowing through the strait and that Iran does not control the waterway.
