Ebola Frontline Workers Strike in DRC's Ituri Region Over Unpaid Wages
Exhausted medical personnel and frontline responders in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Ituri region have walked off the job to protest unpaid wages since the Ebola outbreak began in May. Protesters burned tires outside treatment centers in the hard-hit region, which is also a frequent site of militia violence. The strike significantly hampers efforts to contain the epidemic and increases the vulnerability of thousands of displaced persons in eastern Congo.
