Over 11,000 flee el-Obeid as SAF-RSF fighting intensifies

Escalating combat between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) around the strategic city of el-Obeid has displaced more than 11,000 people as of July 7, 2026. Save the Children reported that over 5,500 children are among those newly uprooted. Drone strikes and heavy shelling have severely damaged critical water and electricity infrastructure, with the UN warning that up to 500,000 civilians remain at acute risk if a full-scale assault occurs.
