Haitian Police Shoot Medical Student During Hospital Protest
A uniformed Haitian National Police officer shot and wounded a medical student during a protest in Port-au-Prince on July 1. Dozens of medical students were demonstrating to demand the reopening and relocation of the University Hospital of Haiti, which has been closed since late 2024 due to gang control. The shooting occurred after police used tear gas to disperse the peaceful march near the Prime Minister's office.
