Armed Gang Clashes Displace Thousands in Artibonite
In late June 2026, severe clashes between heavily armed gang factions in Haiti's Artibonite department caused a sudden wave of civilian flight. According to a UN News report citing OCHA data, more than 2,600 people were newly displaced by the violence. The majority of these displaced individuals were forced to abandon their homes and seek emergency refuge in the nearby commune of Marchand Dessalines as the humanitarian situation rapidly deteriorated.
