Ukraine Orders Mandatory Evacuations in Chernihiv Amid Northern Offensive Warning
Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi warned of a probable Russian offensive launched from the Bryansk region toward Chernihiv to draw defensive units away from eastern fronts. In response, Ukrainian authorities initiated the mandatory evacuation of 12 border settlements starting July 1, extending existing orders for 7 others. While Syrskyi noted that a direct assault on Kyiv from Belarus remains unlikely, the dismantling of bridges and fortification of marshlands have been prioritized to thwart any mechanized push from the north.
