DRC Files ICJ Case Against Rwanda Over Support for M23 Rebels
The Democratic Republic of the Congo formally filed a case against Rwanda at the International Court of Justice on June 29, 2026, accusing Kigali of violating international treaties by deploying troops and supporting the M23 rebel group. Simultaneously, the U.S. Treasury sanctioned the Rwandan-based Gasabo Gold Refinery for smuggling minerals out of eastern DRC to fund the M23 insurgency. Rwanda has consistently denied these allegations despite mounting international pressure and evidence of military involvement.
