IDF Officer Killed in Clash with Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon Village
Israeli Captain David Hazut, 21, was killed during an overnight engagement in the southern Lebanese village of Deir Siryan. Troops of the Golani Brigade were entering a structure when a Hezbollah operative armed with an anti-tank explosive opened fire, killing Hazut and wounding another soldier. The IDF subsequently tracked the operative to a nearby building and eliminated him. This combat occurs despite the signing of a U.S.-sponsored peace framework intended to stabilize the border region.
