Gang Clashes and Displacement in Cité Soleil
In mid-June 2026, a severe escalation in gang violence forced residents to flee several neighborhoods in the Cité Soleil municipality of Port-au-Prince, including Belecou and Wharf Jérémie. According to the IOM Displacement Tracking Matrix published on June 19, these armed clashes caused the displacement of approximately 5,025 people, equivalent to 1,225 households. The vast majority of the displaced sought refuge in existing or newly created spontaneous sites within Cité Soleil and neighboring Delmas as security conditions deteriorated.
