Mogadishu Clashes Displace 12,500 Somali Families
Intense fighting erupted on June 3 between Somali Federal Government forces and an opposition-affiliated armed group near the Dabka junction in Mogadishu. The violence quickly spread to densely populated districts including Hodan, Howlwadaag, and Cabdicasiis. According to a Protection of Civilians note prepared by UNHCR Somalia, the heavy armed clashes forced approximately 12,500 households (estimated 75,000 individuals) to flee their homes overnight, triggering a severe humanitarian crisis.
